The Odyssey Premier - A KAM Review
Working in the film industry, you can only imagine how excited we get when we hear a new movie is in the making - especially one directed by the incredible Christopher Nolan!
We were fortunate enough to be invited to the NZ Premier of The Odyssey by Universal Pictures NZ this month, and let's just say, it was INCREDIBLE! From the star studded cast to the picture perfect locations, this film had it all! Following Greek hero, Odysseus, on a grueling journey back home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. He battles mythical creatures, faces the challenges of the gods and battles his way back home to his wife and son who have never given up hope that he would return home one day. From start to end, the entire movie was packed with action, bravery, heartfelt moments and a whole lot of adventure, making it impossible to take your eyes off the screen. We were even fortunate enough to watch the film in the iMAX cinema on Queen Street, this made the experience 100 times better! If you didn't already know, The Odyssey is the first ever full length feature movie that was filmed entirely on iMAX (pretty cool, right?!) So you can just imagine how great it looked on the big screen!
The next day, we were all curious to learn more about the Behind the Scenes and filming secrets, so I thought I would add a few of our favourites below that really blew our minds!
FUN FACTS ABOUT THE ODYSSEY:
- Matt Damon's stunt double was actually a woman in a few of the scenes! He also mentioned she has the best arms he's ever seen - what a compliment coming from him, right?!
- One of the locations took 45 minutes to get to each way! Cast and crew both had to take on this hike while helicopters were brought in to bring up equipment that wasn't able to be carried up! Can you imagine how busy the hair and makeup team would be at the top?!
- According to filmmakers, the movie used more than 2.1 million feet of film, that's longer than the distance between Toronto and New York!
- The film was filmed across 6 different countries; Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland and the USA
- An astonishing 5000+ costumes were created for this film by a team of over 500 talented artists from all over the world! Countries included USA, Morocco, Italy, Greece, Iceland, Scotland, Spain, England and even New Zealand!! Go us!
